   marshal of France
   Born in Strasbourg, François-Christophe Keller-mann, who was an officer during the ancien régime, joined the revolution of 1789 and was named lieutenant general in 1792. on september 20 of that year, he won the Battle of valmy under the command of General charles dumouriez. General Kellermann suppressed the insurrection of lyon in August 1793, and was later himself arrested as a suspect (November 1793), before being freed in July 1794. He commanded the Army of the Alps (1795-97) and was made a marshal in 1804, and a senator and duke de valmy in 1808. Marshal Kellermann went over to the Bourbons in 1814 and sat as a member of the Chamber of Peers.
